I was looking for a decently priced mr3040 when i came across a mercury m301.
Basically it said that it was a rebranded 3040.
I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it
Or at least where to get a 3040 for under $40.

I don't know anything about it, but it looks like it should work. Says it has OpenWrt preinstalled on some sites.

Did a little bit of reading and it turns out that the mercury m301 is the exact same router as the mr3040. The only differences:
Different look.
Different name.
And the firmware flasher is in english since its the english version.
Plus, you can buy them with openWRT like bongk said.

But ill end up buying one messing with it and posting a review in the future.
You know, just as a sweet alternative hopefully.
