My TPLink router has been setup, however I cannot recall the password when I try connect using telnet / ssh.

I've tried to reset the router but it doesn't go back to default.

ANY suggestions as to how to get this working again.

Booting into failsafe mode doesn't reset settings, it just puts the router into a static configuration from which you can reset it yourself.
Iirc, in failsafe mode, only the power LED will come on and you can telnet into 192.168.1.1
When you get in, type "firstboot" to reset to factory defaults.
It's a little tricky to get the timing right. Just keep trying

Once you get it right, I suggest you write down your password

There is also a way to reset the password from failsafe without rebooting.
I think you "mount_root" and then "passwd"
See wiki.openwrt.org/doc/howto/generic.failsafe
